Thanks very much lechu.

I followed your instructions and everything is fine, I can now play my Region 1 DVDs happily.

I have some follow up questions though...

Is there an enlgish list of all the commands that Gufiak's mod makes available and how to invoke them?? I an't speak Polish :(, but I'm good at English and ok at French.

Thanks,

Gary

And you have installed polish version of FW? There were several international releases some time ago. You can find them on http://board.softpedia.com/.
If you need only 26 basic latin characters in divx subtitles, you can use polish version with characters in CP-1250 codepage (switch only OSD language to your favorite ;)), but if you need some other codepage , you should probably load some international FW. You can find an English version of Changelog in package with it.

I HAVE DV383-S, I FORGOT TO WAIT THE 5 MINUTES AND I UNPLUG THE DVD, SO I INTERRUPT THE FLASH UPGRADE. wHEN I plug again it doesnt respond, no light, no sound... nothing. I make two of the sches by giskard. ( tiny interface with 2 transistors and ausi INTERFACE with CMOS 4069), but i dont have a succesful flashing. I dont find any serial phone cable in Peru. I think I need another command to ON MY PLAYER... TO UNLOCK TO FLASH IT... HOW I CONFIRM IF I MAKE A GOOD SERIAL INTERFACE?? OR IF I PUT THE CABLES IN THE RIGHT WAY.

SINCERILY

dead383, you can use:
http://www.sparkfun.com/c...products_id=449
or make a cable yourself:
http://wl500g.info/showth...=serial+console (this is for another device but an idea is the same). Especially look here:
http://wl500g.info/attach...87&d=1111592271
Here you have schema of such cable:

Hi guys!!

First of all I would like to thank you for all the effort you put in to helping people in this topic.

My Pioneer DV 380 player is now dead, after an unsuccesful (and very dumb mistake) software upgrade. I have so far opened my player to see which connecter I can use, and read the guide about 20 times to know what steps to take. But still I have some unanswered questions :help:

 1st question:
- Can I just use a normal serial cable for pc i have lying around here and cut it open instead of buying a special phone serial connector??

 2nd question:
- I have the same white connecter as displayed in this picture but with a DV-380 board. I hope that means it will be easier to modify my serial cable to connect to it. I have looked at all the schematics for the cable designs, and its kind of staggering me.. I have some medium electronic and computer hardware experience but I am not sure how to:

- know which cables from the serial cable to put in what order (they are not mentioned on the connector schematics since this is an ordinary serial cable (female/female)
- how to connect the ends to the white connecter on the pic shown, could i just push 'em into the appropriate holes or do I really need to solder them to the 4 pin power connecter as shown in the example guide, although i don't understand what 'office pins' are.

Anyways, if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated.

Greetings from Holland and thanks a lot.. :-)

Probably not, as you need it to work with 3.3V. If you just cut one connector from normal cable this will provide 5.5V.
You may built your own cable in very cheep way, following this schema:

I bought two sets of parts for this lately, and payd 2,96 PLN that is cca. 0,74 EURO.

Dear All,

I would like to ask your kind suggestions. While I upgraded the firmware of my DV-585 the electricity was off. Now I can’t switch on it at all, no sound, no ligt, it is absolutely dead…
I built a serial data cable and followed the instructions on site http://www.pioneerfaq.inf...ion=Dead_Player without success. I tried the MTK tools mentioned on the site, but no one recognized or communicated with the flash memory chip.
Maybe the serial port of my notebook does not work properly, how could I check it? Or, my player is definitively dead?
Thank you for your reply in advance!

Check if your notebook use proper COM port. Mine uses no. 11 and up, and is totaly useless unless it is modified.

Get a USB to Seriel cable and then use New Ages flash program!
it should be in the download section!
