Hi,

I purchased a DV-383S code free player on eBay. It can playback most DivX/Xvid movies but not all Xvid movies with OpenDML or GMC enabled.

Are these issue dealt with in the latest firmware?? Thanks a lot...

Something else to add:

Xvid movies with OpenDML can't be played on this DVD player.

jakelee, There was always a problem with GMC and it will be not solved by any FW mods. To watch such movies you need to remove it by full recompression. There are some problems with packedbitstream in xvid files. The easiest way is to remove it using MPEG4Modyfier. It takes just few minutes.

GMC Issue: Yes - I tried this, the whole process takes a long time.

PB: Yes...I did this already with MPEG4Modifier. Seems that some Xvid movies with packed PB can be playbacked on this DVD player, not with GMC enabled...

OpenDML: It seems that any DivX/Xvid movies with OpenDML can't be playbacked on this DVD player, meanwhile, MPEG4Modifier doesn't support OpenDML AVI yet. Do you know how I can remove this OpenDML from those movies??

No easy to advise
There is still no original fw for this player avalible. So, in case that upgrading with Gufiak's mode would fail, you have no chance to "resurect" it, yourselfs. So, I would not try to do that, yet.

dinderi, are you sure that there is no original FW for 383. This is an american version of 380 and not the new 393 model.

Heading says for DV-2850/380/383/585A/588A/686A...the current original firmware is 1.20.

UPSSSS! My misunderstanding. Sorry for that! Everybody talks about new players now and I red "dv-393" instead "dv-383". Probably Dr. Freud would have a good explanation for that

Here is the response I got from the Pioneer customer service in US:

Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.
I am not showing the DV-383 as a model released here in the US. I was able to locate a manual for the unit. Below is the compatibility section from the owners manual.
I checked with Engineering, I am not showing any firmware updates for this model.

Hopefully this will assist you in what you are looking for.

Official DivXŽCertified product.
Plays DivXŽ5, DivXŽ4, DivXŽ3 and DivXŽVOD video content (in compliance withDivXŽCertified technical requirements).

File extensions: .avi and .divx (these must be used for the player to recognize DivX video files).
Note that all files with the .avi extension are recognized as MPEG4, but not all of these are necessarily DivX video files and therefore may not be playable on this player.

Weird or not weird. This is an official point of view from pioneer and authorized distributors. But in fact, these players can play most of xvids files as well. Pioneer can't guarantee proper playback of these type of files and they don't write the player can.

Yeah - they want to stay politically correct when helping customers...

Anyway, any idea on OpenDML AVIs?? Doesn't seem that these can be played on this DVD player...is there anyway that I can convert and what I need to be aware of during the conversion?? Thanks...
