howzit guys - am i correct in thinking that all i need to do is burn the ISO file to CD correctly and pop it in the tray and follow your instructions? did that and it didn't work, even after following this http://www.pioneerfaq.info/english/burn_guide.php burn guide. i noticed that other similar cracks all use BIN files like the one on the original uncut firmware file you posted here - do i need to install that one first?

Yes, just burn the iso and put it in the tray.
Strange that it does not work for you. Are you sure you have the DRX-730?

yup, it's the drx 730. it is region 2 for south africa and pal i guess. but the machine just says cannot read disc - tried on 2 cds and dvd and with a memory stick..

Are you sure you know how to burn a .iso file?
After burning the .iso the disc should be named "Pioneer" and contain 1 file, S8CA1246.bin.

ok no i guess not - i thought i had to burn a disc so that the .iso file was on the disc! so do i burn the .bin file onto the disc using the iso 9660 setting? i'm using toast

You should read the faq of your burning program, an iso file is an image of the disc. You you should look for the option "Burn image..." or something like that, e.g. in my Nero 6 program it is in the main screen under the "Recorder" scroll down menu, yes, as strange place.

Can someone point me to location where can I download the firmware mentioned in this thread? Since someone has asked same question several months ago I hope it's OK for me to ask again.

I just purchased a Yamaha DRX-730 which comes with ROM version 1.24 set to Region 1. Would love to reset to region 0 so I can watch region 2 DVD.

Hi, make sure you are logged in - u can't see the link if you aren't - it's posted in that post at the top of the page. if the text at the bottom of the page still says you cannot post, you cannot etc etc and you have logged in, just refresh the page (if u logged in and clicked the back button to return to the thread) - it should read you CAN post, you CAN blah blah and then the link should show in that post.. make sure you read the bit about burning an .iso disc

I am also trying to free a region 1 Yamaha DRX730.
Have the ISO patched file downloaded from the link indicated by Roland, but have recorded 3 DVDs that the player says it can't read.
I tried twice with iMac disk utility and also once on PC WinXP with ROXIO Creator10. Both seem to be straightforward, but obviously I am missing something.
Can anyone shed some light?

I burned a CD instead of a DVD to record the ISO image and it worked! My Yamaha MCR730 is now region free.
Thanks to Roland for the hints, Hakan for the patched FW and Ross for pointing out that burning correctly the disc was the key.
