Take a look at the pic!! Is this what you mean??
When this ''flickering'' happens did you watch a NTSC movie at the time??
This is a problem that comes with HDMI, i was told by a Pioneer engeneer, it is like a war between the player and the TV on what TV-system it shall remain on and as the result is flickering.
The player when set to AUTO always returns to PAL, I've told Pioneer this but it seems that it's not such a big problem
I have seen this in earlier firmwares but not since I installed the new V5.0. |

Hi NoWorries,
Sorry it's been a long time.....and I still haven't got any results for you as yet!!
Yes, I can confirm that this is the image I see when using firmware v5.0
I have been using v3.01 since my last posting without experiencing this issue.
My Pioneer A/V Receiver VSX-AX4ASi-s may be an issue - some HDMI issues have been identified by others and is having its firmware upgraded very soon (should have been this week but waiting for the firmware to arrive from Pioneer!!)
I will wait for that to happen and then try v5.0 on my 696 again.
Cheers,
Steven |

Hello!!
I have another question about DV-696AV.
Is there DTS decoding of MPEG4 files or not?? I want to know whether or not this unit output DTS audio from MPEG4/DVD on 2ch downmix and 6ch analog, or on Digital audio and HDMI only?? |

I have exactly the same problem with a Pioneer DV-400.
It was working perfectly, apart from being region 2. (Japanese NTSC, region 2) After upgrading, I have no more HDMI anymore. Actually, the player shows 480p on the display. When I get into the menu, although 480p is has a yellow dot next to it, it is grayed out (along with all of the other HDMI modes).
Also, I can't change from NSTC to Auto or PAL.
If I turn off my HDMI monitor, then turn it back on, I get about 3-6 seconds picture, but then it cuts out again. The sync is still working, but the picture is not working for most of the time. It also sometimes says "out of range".
Any clues?

I've found out more.
The DV-400 DOES actually change modes and will output to an HDMI monitor, and you can change the mode from 480p to 1080p....
BUT, it will only display it for about 3-5 seconds. After that, the output shuts off. If you turn off the HDMI monitor, it will display again for about 3-5 seconds. In this way, you can EVENTUALLY use the setup menu to change things, but each time you have to turn the HDMI monitor on & off.
It's as though either the monitor doesn't think there's an input (although it's synced and the backlight is working, or the DVD player is switch off the content. Could it be a screen saver? |

Hi,everybody! Have you found the solution to the HDMI problem? Perhaps any "uncut" FW would do? A fellow from IXBT has the same trouble. Please help! |

If you notice any problem with HDMI or analog sound you need to upgrade your dv400 player with uncut firmware, using serial cable |

Uncut (backup file), original firmware for Pioneer dv-696 you may download from here:
http://www.esnips.com/doc...-Y6B01160-uncut
Please notice this is only to be used with upgrading with serial cable. IT NOT fits Cd-upgrade! |
