I am having problem with viewing china/chinese subtitle with DV-393. It will show the subtitle but NOT with the correct fonts. Is there any fw or setting to enable it ?

I am not sure if this is a repeated question, but I did the searching and failed to get any related posts ( maybe I missed something ... pls forgive ).

Pls advise.

What versions of fonts do you get??
The modified firmwares are using some font banks for, another font for file browser, Greek fonts and Western European Fonts for DivX subtitles.
Mayby this is why you dont get chines fonts!!

I really not sure how to change the fonts and not sure what type of fonts been selected.

BTW, I had upgrade fw to "YDA6824A.V4.0_ENG" by Hakan.
The English Subtitles appear bigger and in correct fonts but the problem only with "Chinese subtitle".

Can help to show me step-by-step how to select font I don't fully understand instructions in the Menu.

I think the problem my be more complicated. Few months ago I was asked by the man from Korea to put korean fonts into fw. I found a font bank with korean characters and spend several hours trying to make it work correct way. Every time, whatever we did, Korean characteres were displayed incorect. As in original fw there is 2 fontbanks with chinese characters, fw may use both. In modified firmware, one of those fontbanks is replaced for europian characters and used to display player's dispatches.
So I guess, it probably need to be organized as in original firmware, without the patch that organize fonbanks different way.
The little problem to do it is, that no one here understands Chinese, enough to check if the patches work.

Thanks for trying eastern fonts. I really hope the coming fw for DV-393 will support Chinese font. I understand chinese and willing to try the patch for testing .... but pls spend some time to do it and upload.

I guess chinese fontbank is ready done and can get somewhere from internet (GB2312 & ChineseBig5)

I can wait for the best ... but can't wait to try beta version

As I said the font bank is not a real problem. It looks like all needed fonts are in original fimrware.
The point is that the best fw for dv393 enchanced by Robert7 has some patches, reorganizing fontbanks, implemented. However I may undo some of them, I do not know how to undo the patch for support russian and hebrew letters in filnames, in filebrowser. This may couse big problem, as previously (in original fw) at this place, as russian chars are now, were chinese chars.
So, I think it is possible to do some of the patches instead "divx subtitles text line wraping", but need some informations first. Are chinese fonts properly displayed in original firmware? If yes, do you have serial cable, to resurect your player, in case it die after upgrade?

What if you go to Initial settings and choose the code for Chinese divx subtitles?

I already tried all possible way to select whatever selection related to chinese chars ... but, the subtitle still display in the wrong chars.

What a coincidence , the second day buying DV-393, my old 29' TV was broken. Is it because that TV was not "compatible with" it :: The screen turned to greenish and very blur. Nvm, I still can test the pack with my PC-TV card

Press "Home Menu" go to:
Initial Settings - Subtitle LAnguage - Other languages and enter the code 2608 (zh)
This should (the metter is, if realy does ) set Chinese fontbank.

I had trying with subtitle setting - every possible ways:
1. chinese (2608)
2. taiwan (2023)
3. hongkong (0811)
4. singapore (1907)
5. malaysia (1325)
6. russia (1821)
7. korea (1118)

too bad ... all giving the wrong chars (as attached pics).

I think chinese fonts is not available the original fontbank ( even though there is a selection for 'chinese' )

After browsing through internet, I found this info.

There are two CodePage for Chinese Chars:
1. CP936 - Simplified Chinese (GBK, GB2312)
2. CP950 - Traditional Chinese (BIG5)

Both of them must put separately .... but how

Some posts said that changing fw might kill the player .... this makes me don't dare to try

work_tgr, would you please open original firmware in MTKRemaker and have a look at Font. (You finde a root tree at right, just brows it)
Which Font is Simplified Chinese and which is Traditional Chinese? And which one is more usefull for you?

I open the original fw - Y3A01160 and found that

OSD1 visuals > Font 2 [ 02 - 03 ] / OSD 2 Languages > Language 7 [ 06 ] is simplified Chinese

OSD1 visuals > Font 3 [ 04 - 05 ] / OSD 2 Languages > Language 8 [ 07 ] is traditional Chinese

Some movie comes with simplified Chinese and some come with traditional chinese. I hope both can be supported. But, simplified chinese is more useful for me.

I'll send you 2 versions of Robert 7 fw to test:
1. Support simplified chinese as default, and traditional chinese to choose as a Hebrew
2. I try to copy Chinese Language as Default, but this may not work right.
I'll do it at evening, as now I need to work.
