   Model odtwarzacza: DV400

I have a week old DV400 which I was able to play Xvid movies off of FAT32 devices previously but now when I try it, I just get the Red Lettered Pioneer Screen and the display says USB MODE. The hard disk was compatible earlier and is spinning up but I dont see the screen that says DivX or Jpeg anymore. Same thing with a USB stick. It appears the USB port is still supplying power

I have not tried changing the firmware. It seems like the USB portion is stuck or dead? The DVD playback still works fine. Will reloading the firmware fix this problem?

Replace it while you can. If you are using the same devices that worked before, it's the right thing to do. ;-)

Can you tell me exactly on which page of instr.manual have you read about the ability of this player to play files from HDD. It is not supposed to do this, that's why your troubles take place,IMHO.

it says USB mass storage device, my terminology may not be correct, HDD = USB external hard drive.

Of course it plays movies from USB devices, HDD and memory sticks. I have an external HDD allways connected, filled with divx, xvid, etc. :-|

The YGB73281 is older than YGB7516A.

Quote:
Re firmware though, I've noticed I get different results on my DVI-based TV depending on what firmware is contained on these Pioneer players. Some will display 720p/1080i via the (HDCP-compliant) DVI input on my Sony 34XBR800 CRT, and some will not. The ones that do not display 720p/1080i are units that contain the latest firmware: YGB7516A.

Units with the older firmware, YGB73281, seem to work OK though for the most part via DVI on my TV.

According to Pioneer, units made between January and May of '07 should have shipped with the older firmware (though it's possible some resellers may have updated it). These older units have serial numbers beginning with GA, GB, GC, GD & GE. (GA=Jan, GB=Feb, and so on...) Models built in June through August should have the newer firmware (ie the one that does not work properly via DVI on my Sony TV), and serial numbers starting with GF, GG & GH. Serial numbers are listed on the outside of the box, and also on the back of the unit.

Code:
Serial Month Firmware 720p/1080i via
#: Mfr'd: Included: DVI on my TV:

GA... Jan 07 YGB73281
GB... Feb 07 YGB73281
GC... Mar 07 YGB73281
GD... Apr 07 YGB73281 Yes
GE... May 07 YGB73281

GF... Jun 07 YGB7516A No
GG... Jul 07 YGB7516A
GH... Aug 07 YGB7516A NoIf you're having trouble getting this model to work on a DVI display, you might want to look for a unit with the older firmware (and avoid updating to the newer firmware for the time being).

(Tks to the OP for info on how to check the firmware version.)

How do you find out what firmware is on the machine without flashing it first?

Hi,
It may be a little late.. however I face similar issue.

I have DV-400Vs .
I used to play Divx movies over a USB Hard drive and also USB flash drive.
When in USB mode, on inserting the USB device, I also used to get the menu to choose between .AVI and .JPEG files.

However It has stopped now. Now a days it fails to detect Divx(AVI) files on USB disk.
However the JPEG / MP3 files on USB disk are still playing fine.

Can anyone please help?

My firmware is YGB7821A
Thanks

I found the reply to my issue. It was hinted somewhere here.
There were many (over 5000 small) files in the partition.
So the player would skip scanning the files.
When I deleted the (unnecessary) files, I found the menu that lets us choose between Divx, JPEG, MP3.

Thanks all.

I have the same problem: able to reproduce Jpeg via USB, but .avi stops after reading index and cannot play it. Any ideas ? I tried deleting files even though there were not that much, but didn't work in my case. It was working fine, I was able to watch 9 lost chapters, but today I cannot watch chapter 10 ! Firmware is YGB7821A and using a Kingston 2 Gb pendrive.
Thanks and Regards

mail_ranjithgp, I have the same problem you had last year with my DV400: able to reproduce Jpeg via USB, but .avi stops after displaying "reading index" and cannot play it. Any ideas ? I tried deleting files even though there were not that much, but didn't work in my case. Thanks and Regards
